ARMY CHIEF CONGRATULATING NEW CHIEF OF STAFF GIVES PIECE OF ADVICE

General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this afternoon (18) extended his best wishes to the new Chief of Staff, Major General Senarath Bandara when the latter paid his first courtesy call on the incumbent Commander of the Army at his office.

During the brief interaction, General Shavendra Silva congratulating the Senior Officer on his new office exchanged a few words with him and wanted him to seriously address and prioritize concerns in regard to accommodation, welfare, living standards of soldiers at the Headquarters and evaluate the progress on a weekly basis after appointing necessary administrative boards as deemed necessary and expedite those requirements.

The Army Chief also wanted the new Chief of Staff to perform his duties while giving equal treatment to all Regiments in the Army and assist them to resolve pending issues, if any as a national responsibility. Similarly, General Shavendra Silva highlighted the need for his office to actively engage in nation-building tasks in future for the greater benefit of the country to be in line with the Presidential vision and usher development and prosperity.

Elaborating on the need to be alert to health concerns of All Ranks in the wake of COVID-19 epidemic, General Shavendra Silva advised the new Chief of Staff to take maximum possible measures in order to provide safety and prevention to All Ranks serving the HQ and elsewhere.

Major General Senarath Bandara in turn expressed his deep gratitude to the Commander of the Army for his directions, guidance and advice and assured that he would do his maximum to reach those targets and aspirations for the benefit of All Ranks in the Army.

Towards the end of the brief meeting, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army in a special gesture added memories to the occasion by presenting the new Senior Officer 's letter of appointment and a symbolic souvenir.
