CDS ADDRESSES DSCSC STUDENTS

General Jagath Jayasuriya addressed the student officers of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) this morning. It is customary for the Chief of Defence Staff, the highest ranking military officer in the country to address the student officers of every DSCSC course to share his views on a topic of strategic importance. General Jaysuriya based his speech on the topic of the requirement of peace, security and stability in the future progress of Sri Lanka. He emphasized that security is the single most important factor in furtherance of the country 's dream of becoming the "Wonder of Asia”. He said that ensuring security is vital for peace, stability and the economic development and the defence establishment is closely watching the attempts by secessionist elements both local and overseas to threaten the stability of Sri Lanka. In his address, General Jayasuriya explained the dismal situation of the country before the commencement of the Humanitarian Operations and brought out remarkable milestones that the country has achieved in terms of stability and development. After the question and answer session, the Chief of Defence Staff presented to the DSCSC, a copy of Sun Tzu 's master piece "the Art of War” written on bamboo strips which is a memento presented to him during the time in the National Defence University, China. Thereafter the CDS interacted with the faculty of the DSCSC and international students at tea held at the Officers Mess.
