CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF INTERACTS & GIVES PATIENT HEARING TO JAFFNA RESIDENT TRI SERVICE VETERANS

Taking time off from the day 's main schedule in Jaffna and showing true spirits of respect and sense of comradeship, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, not forgetful of their yesteryear duty commitments, met a group of Jaffna-resident Tri service veterans in retirement and expressed his deep gratitude to them by awarding gift parcels on account of the festive season when the former was in the peninsula this morning (12) to speak to serving tri servicemen and also to take stock of current COVID-19 roles and national security concerns in the peninsula.

The representative group of those ten retired tri service veterans, belonging to the Ex-servicemen 's Association in Jaffna was jubilant to meet General Shavendra Silva at the SFHQ-Jaffna premises and voiced their touching sentiments as the Army Chief went on inquiring into their well-being and yesteryear recollections during their career. The visiting Chief of Defence Staff also shared pleasantries with them and wished them good health and longevity before they were awarded special New Year gift parcels plus a special memento of valuable nature. Impressed with the friendly gesture, the group of veterans requested the Army Chief to pose for a group photo with them before they left the premises after refreshments.

Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, North-based Tri Service senior Officers and Other Ranks were also associated with the occasion.
