COMMANDER OF THE NAVY CALLS ON CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera who assumed duties as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on 1st of July 2014 paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuriya on Thursday 3rd July 2014.\r\n\r\nGeneral Jayasuriya extending a warm welcome engaged in a cordial discussion with Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera. Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 23rd August 1978 and had his basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee. He is a Gunnery specialist and a graduate of the Naval Staff College India and the National Defence College Pakistan. He holds a Master of Science degree in Defence Studies from the University of Madras India and a Masters degree in Defence & Strategic Studies from the National Defence University of Pakistan. He has also followed an International Disaster Management Course & Workshop in the United Kingdom and the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander Course at the United States Naval War College Hawaii. Vice Admiral Perera has had the privilege of commanding several ships in the Sri Lanka Navy. He has served as the Commander Western Naval Area in 2008, Commander Southern Naval Area in 2007 and Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area during the Humanitarian Operation in 2006. He has also served in key staff appointments, which include Director General Operations, Director General Services and Director Naval Operations & Special Forces in addition to being the Media Spokesman of the Sri Lanka Navy. He was the Chief of Staff of the Navy prior to assuming command.
