DENGUE CONTROL PROGRAM IN NINE DISTRICTS CONCLUDED SUCCESSFULLY

A three day special Dengue prevention and control programme targeting nine high risk districts including the Western Province, was jointly conducted by the National Dengue Control Unit - Ministry of Health with the support of Tri Services, Police and the Civil Defence Department from 11th to 13th February 2016. The programme conducted in Kegalle, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Districts and in the Western Province. This was the third such programme conducted in the Western Province during this year to intensify Dengue prevention and control activities, since the situation is precarious. Over 121,481 premises were inspected during this programme and 24,023 premises had been identified as potential mosquitoes breeding sites. As a corrective measure, 5656 special notices were issued for the owners of the recognized premises and a total of 2383 court cases are to be filed against people owing houses and premises with mosquito breeding sites during the past three days. In this continuous endeavour to eradicate the Dengue epidemic in Sri Lanka, the Office of the Chief of the Defence Staff has played a leading role in coordinating the Tri Services, Police and the Civil Defence Department.
