GENERAL SHAVENDRA SILVA ADDRESSES THE TROOPS OF SECURITY FORCES (MULLAITTIVU)

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, visited the Security Forces Headquarters (Mullaittivu) today (18 March 2023) and was received by Major General UD Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc the Security Forces Commander Mullaittivu on arrival. At the entrance, the CDS was warmly welcomed honouring the customs and traditions respected by the Armed Forces and ushered to the auditorium for troop address.

Addressing the troops, the CDS brought out that His Excellency the President Ranil Wickemesinghe and National Security Advisor Mr Sagala Rathnayake have stressed the importance of proper coordination among the Tri-Forces, Police, and STF in effectively discharging the assigned tasks. Accordingly, he stated that the OCDS has initiated a Joint Coordinated Action Plan to achieve better results more effectively in addressing any eventualities. He similarly stressed the importance of correctly understanding the coordinated effort by the junior level command to the senior level command of any force. The CDS said in his address that the theme ‘jointness’ is the new trend in the global militias which is also in the Sri Lankan Armed-Forces.

He also highlighted the importance of respecting the cultural diversity and the ethics of the citizens of the area and stressed to consider and respect them particularly when discharging duties and drawing security measures. Speaking further, the CDS emphasised the responsibility that lays to assist the Reconciliation Process in possible mean such as by supporting to the specialised professions in the area such as fisheries.

In his speech, CDS did not forget to convey his thankfulness to His Excellency the President, National Security Advisor, and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence for their continued support and assistance extended to the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to discharge the entrusted duties effectively.

GOCs of Divisions, FMA Commander, Brigade Commanders, a cross section of Officers and Other Ranks of tri-service were present at the occasion.
