NEW JAPANESE AMBASSADOR WELCOMES SRI LANKAN ASSOCIATES

The newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Isomata Akio, hosted an elegant reception at the Japanese Embassy in Colombo to introduce himself to Sri Lankan associates and strengthen ties between the two nations.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, attended the occasion at the invitation of the Ambassador His Excellency Isomata Akio and his spouse, Mrs. Isomata Chieko, and was warmly welcomed upon arrival.

The new Ambassador, with extensive diplomatic experience, served in the United Arab Emirates in his previous appointment before taking up his current role in Sri Lanka.

In his address to the gathering, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to all present, emphasizing his commitment to fostering closer relationships and exploring new avenues of cooperation. He shared that he has cherished a profound admiration for Sri Lanka since his childhood and eagerly anticipates the opportunity to explore the country and its rich heritage during his time here.

During the evening, the CDS conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed Ambassador, expressing his sincere wishes for a successful and impactful stint in Sri Lanka. He also underscored the enduring friendship between the two nations, highlighting the strong bonds of cooperation and the cordial relationship shared with the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

The event was marked by warm exchanges and discussions, setting a promising tone for his tenure in Sri Lanka.

The evening was honoured by the presence of members of the foreign diplomatic community in Colombo, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, former parliamentarians, government officials, and other distinguished guests from various sectors, reflecting the long-standing partnership and friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
