His Excellency, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, was sworn in this morning (23 September) as the 9th Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The ceremonial swearing-in took place before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Following his swearing-in as the new President in a simple yet dignified ceremony, His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake addressed the gathering, reaffirming his commitment to the nation and its citizens, and expressing his determination to serve with integrity and devotion.
Furthermore, he assured that democracy in the country will be preserved with the utmost dedication, emphasizing his obligation to uphold democratic values and principles. Simultaneously, he underscored his dedication to cultivating strong and positive relationships with international partners. At the same time, he affirmed that the ongoing economic crisis in the country will be effectively addressed, highlighting the crucial role of entrepreneurs in fostering a thriving economy.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, and the Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force presented traditional military Aide de Camp presence at the swearing-in ceremony.
General Shavendra Silva extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the new president on this significant occasion.
After the ceremony the new president held a brief discussion with the CDS, the tri-services commanders and the acting IGP.
The swearing-in ceremony was honoured by the presence of venerable religious leaders, several members of the diplomatic community in Colombo, the President's Secretary, Mr. Saman Ekanayake, and numerous other distinguished dignitaries.
