THE NEWLY APPOINTED COMMANDER OF THE NAVY CALLS ON THE CDS

Keeping with long rooted traditions in the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, the newly appointed Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, RSP **, USP, ndu, psc called on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) this morning (27 Dec).

Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera took office as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on 18th December 2022, after being elevated him to the rank of three-star Admiral. Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera's illustrious career has been enriched with vast experience in the Sri Lanka Navy, in various capacities and he is a recipient of Rana Soora Padakkama (RSP) thrice for the conspicuous display of gallantry in combat and Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) for unblemished service and devotion to duty.

During this first formal courtesy call on, the CDS congratulated the Navy Chief for the milestone achievement of his long military career and extended best wishes to discharge the entrusted duties and responsibilities in the best interest of the nation.

The ensuing cordial discussion between the two senior officers mainly focused on matters related to the Sri Lanka Navy and its cooperation with the other services and law enforcement agencies of the country. The CDS further suggested the requirement of developing a ‘Way Forward Strategy’ for the Sri Lanka Navy as it lays the needed guide for the Navy as well as the future leaders. The CDS stressed the need for continuous training and maintenance of equipment at their optimum as they are decisive in upholding the effectiveness of the force.

At the end of the meeting, the CDS and Navy Chief exchanged mementoes to mark the occasion.
