NEWLY CONSTRUCTED ‘KALANA MITHURU SE RADUN’ WAS UNVEILED

The newly constructed Pagoda (Kalana Mithuru Se Radun) of the Nawatkuli Samiddhi Sumana temple, Jaffna was unveiled and a series of associated religious ceremonies underwent yesterday (18 March 2023) in the Jaffna peninsula.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc MPhil, who is on an official visit to Jaffna attended the event at the invitation of the Venerable Hanwelle Rathanasiri, the Chief Incumbent of the temple. On arrival, the Chief of Defence Staff was accompanied in a colouful procession to the temple premises.

At the invitation of the Anunayake Thero, the CDS joined the unveiling of the Pinnacle (Kotha), placing caskets on the Pariwara Pagodas of sacred of the Kalana Mithuru Se Radun, and opening of the Gantara Kuluna (bell tower) of the temple.

The Most Venerable Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thero appreciated the contribution of the defence forces in the renovation work. Further, he particularly thanked the CDS for his initiative taken during the office as the Commander of the Army in constructing this temple for the villagers of Nawatkuli.

A huge number of devotees, Commander of the Security Force Jaffna, General Officer Commanding of 52 Division and many senior military officers were also present at the occasion where several religious activities and ceremonies took place.
