PLA NAVY HOSPITAL SHIP 'PEACE ARK' HOSTS SRI LANKAN DIGNITARIES

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy hospital ship ‘Peace Ark,’ currently on a formal visit to Sri Lanka under the theme “Mission Harmony 2024,” hosted an on-deck reception for Sri Lankan dignitaries last evening (26 December). The PLA Navy ship arrived in Colombo on 21st December 2024 for a seven-day visit and was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.

The Honourable Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa graced the evening as the Chief Guest. The Deputy Minister of Defence Major General (Retd) Aruna Jayasekara WWV RSP VSV USP ndc psc and the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Qi Zhenhong also honoured the evening.

At the gracious invitation of the Chinese Ambassador, the Commanders of the mission Rear Admiral Ying Hongbo and Rear Admiral He Yongmin, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil attended the grand occasion and was warmly welcomed upon arrival to the ship.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, the Chinese Ambassador and the Deputy Minister of Defence, reiterated the significance of the longstanding bilateral ties, unique friendships maintained over the years, and engagements that have strengthened the bond between the two nations.

Amidst the cordial discussions, General Shavendra Silva took a moment to convey his heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador, the mission commanders, and the dedicated crew for their goodwill exemplified through this friendly mission. Further, he underscored the profound camaraderie and enduring bonds between the armed forces of the two nations, highlighting the depth of their mutual respect and cooperation.

The evening was further distinguished by the presence of the Commanders of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force, along with many other esteemed dignitaries.

Concluding the formal visit, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy hospital ship ‘Peace Ark’ will depart the island on 28th December.
