SECRETARY DEFENECE VISITS MALAYSIA

Press Release Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary, Ministry of Defence & Urban Development, visited Malaysia from 15th to 17th April 2014 at the invitation of Dato Seri Hishammuddin bin Hussein, Minister of Defence of Malaysia, as a guest speaker at the Putrajaya Forum held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.\r\n\r\nMr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary spoke under the theme of \"Influence of Non-State Actors : Impact on Global Security\". He also attended the 14th Defence Services Asia Exhibition & Conference, which was convened simultaneously at the same venue and was attended by Defence Ministers and senior defence officials and Service Commanders of more than fifty countries. During his visit, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa held bilateral meeting with Minister of Defence of Malaysia and also paid courtesy calls on Dato Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Razak, Malaysian Prime Minister and Dato Seri Tengku Adnan bin Tangku Mansor, Minister of Federal Territory, who is in charge of development of administrative city of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. At the meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister, Secretary, Defence & Urban Development conveyed the condolences of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka on the tragic incident of missing Malaysian flight MH 370 and discussed on the future cooperation in many fields including the defence and security cooperation. The Malaysian Prime Minister conveyed his best regards and sincere appreciation to H. E. the President and recalled his recent visit to Sri Lanka to attend the CHOGM summit and appreciated the excellent arrangements that had been made by the Government of Sri Lanka. The Malaysian Defence Minister showed keen interest in expanding the existing security cooperation with Sri Lanka further and he expressed that he looks forward to the possibility of signing a MOU on security cooperation. Secretary, Defence & Urban Development explained the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts of the Government of Sri Lanka and suggested that both countries should look for new vistas of cooperation. Earlier on the day, Secretary, Defence visited Putrajaya Corporation and met the President of the Putrajaya Corporation Tan Sri Dato Seri Aseh bin Haji Cha Mat and viewed the development programme in the Putrajaya Administrative Capital of Malaysia. Secretary Defence, during the meeting with the Minister of Federal Territories further discussed on the training programmes for Sri Lankan officials in the urban development. Secretary, Defence and Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa visited Buddhist Maha Vihara in Kuala Lumpur and paid a courtesy call on the Chief High Priest of Malaysia and Chief Monk of Buddhist Maha Vihara Ven. Dato Sri Dhammarathana Nayaka Maha Thero. During the meetings with Malaysian dignitaries, Secretary, Defence was accompanied by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Ibrahim Ansar, Chief of Defence Staff, General Jagath Jayasuriya, Inspector General of Police, Mr. N.K. Illangakoon, Major General Lalith Daulagala, Deputy High Commissioner, Major General Manawaduge, Rear Admiral N.K.D. Nanayakkara of the Sri Lanka Navy and DIG M. R.
