SPECIAL MEET AT NOCPCO REVIEWS PRIVATE HOSPITAL COSTS ON PCR TESTS

A special discussion at the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID -19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) that took place this afternoon (25) with private sector hospital and laboratory authorities over their charges for PCR tests and the need to regulate such costs, discussed ways and means of giving the best option for those desiring to do such tests.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the NOCPCO and Dr Asela Gunawardena, Medical Specialist and Director General Health Services co-chaired the session where the current process of conduct of such tests was reviewed in relation to their capacities and their modus operandi. The meeting largely focused on varying charges on PCR tests at private sector and the process on the whole, considering concerns raised by affected personnel. It also underlined the implementation of such practices without resorting to clandestine practices at a time the country is undergoing a health crisis.

Co-chairs also carefully listened to their concerns and addressed issues that arose during the discussions. They also sought possibilities of allowing such tests be done at private sector as a priortized national requirement if anyone is interested in receiving such service at private level on payment basis.
