The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Sri Lanka celebrated the 101st anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo last evening (29 October).
The Honourable Governor of the Western Province, Mr. Hanif Yusuf, graced the evening as the Chief Guest.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, along with his spouse, Mrs. Sujeewa Nelson, honoured the evening at the invitation of His Excellency Semith Lütfü Turgut and madam Leyla Turgut and were warmly welcomed upon their arrival.
During the proceedings, the Turkish Ambassador emphasised the significance of the longstanding bilateral ties, unique friendships maintained over the years, and engagements that have strengthened the bond between the two nations.
Amidst the cordial discussions, General Shavendra Silva took a moment to convey his sincere congratulations to the Ambassador and the dedicated staff on this significant milestone for the Turkish people. Further, he appreciated the profound camaraderie and enduring bonds between the two nations, highlighting the depth of their mutual respect and cooperation.
The event was enlivened with vibrant Turkish music and songs, creating a lively atmosphere.
The celebration was graced by the esteemed presence of dignitaries, including the Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV RWP RSP USP fndu psc, members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Colombo, the Commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Navy and distinguished guests from many other sectors. Their attendance showcased the profound friendship and cooperation between Türkiye and Sri Lanka, spanning various sectors.
In line with the commemoration of the Proclamation of the Republic, the Embassy organized a Turkish Food Festival themed ‘The Tastes of Türkiye’ on 24 October at the Galle Face Hotel. The Honourable Governor of the Western Province and General Shavendra Silva attended the event at the gracious invitation of the Ambassador.
