The embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sri Lanka marked the 53rd National Day of the United Arab Emirates with fervour and enthusiasm at the ITC Ratnadipa, Colombo last evening (2 December).
UAE’s envoy in Colombo, His Excellency Khaled Nasser AlAmeri presided over the ceremony, reflecting on the enduring friendship and cooperation shared between the UAE and Sri Lanka.
The evening was graced by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti, as the Chief Guest, while the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV, RWP and two Bars, RSP and Bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu-China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), fndu (China), psc, also honoured the event with his presence.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, attended the event upon the invitation of His Excellency Khaled Nasser AlAmeri and was warmly welcomed upon his arrival.
Delivering their remarks, both His Excellency the Ambassador of UAE and the Honourable Minister highlighted the importance of the longstanding bilateral ties, the enduring friendships nurtured over the years, and the collaborative engagements that have strengthened the bond between the two nations.
Amidst the cordial discussions, General Shavendra Silva took a moment to express his sincere congratulations to the Ambassador and the devoted staff on the occasion of their National Day. Further, he underscored the profound camaraderie and enduring bonds between the two nations, highlighting the depth of their mutual respect and cooperation.
The vibrant atmosphere of the event was graced by the esteemed presence of dignitaries, including members of the diplomatic corps in Colombo, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, and former parliamentarians among other distinguished guests. Their attendance beautifully highlighted the profound friendship and cooperation between UAE and Sri Lanka, spanning various sectors.
