    The Sri Lanka Army, adding renewed recognition to age-old ties of goodwill and friendship rolled out the inauguration of the 7th edition of the ‘International Yoga Day’ (21 June) in collaboration with the High Commission of India at the Sri Jayawardenepura Army Headquarters this morning (21) after transmission of messages of HE the President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Hon Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi during Sri Lanka’s official inauguration of the International Yoga Day, a gesture that reflected the high-profile regard the High Commission of India has attached to the Yoga followers in Sri Lankan armed forces.

    Rear Admiral Rohan Lelwala relinquished duties having discharged a successful office of tenure as the Director General Naval & Air Operations at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff, called on General Shavendra Silva, the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (last 11th June). During the cordial meeting that ensued, the outgoing Director General was presented with an appreciative memento by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army in recognition of his valuable service to the premier Tri Service Headquarters, the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff.

    The latest Special Intensive Care Unit (SICU), the second of its kind, initiated by the Ministry of Health at the Colombo East Base Hospital at Mulleriyawa was opened this morning (21), in an effort to further supplement the national health care infrastructure, in the face of looming threat of COVID-19. At present, 8 Wards with 150 beds for exclusive treatment of COVID-19 patients are functional and the new SICU remained a long-felt requirement of this Colombo East Hospital.
