    Visiting Chief of Defence Force of the Maldivian National Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne today (30th Aug) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS). The Defence Attache of Maldives to Sri Lanka Lieutenant Colonel Ismail Naseer was also present at the occasion.

    The state investiture ceremony to confer the Admiral of the Fleet to the former Commander of the Navy, Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda (Retd) and former Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke (Retd) was held under the auspices of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at the Colombo harbour premises on 19th September 2019.

  • THIRD DEFENCE ATTACHÉ ORIENTATION COURSE ENDS ON A SUCCESSFUL NOTE

    The third orientation course for the Defence Attachés (DA) was successfully concluded yesterday (20th September) at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) at Rathmalana. A total of 28 including 14 foreign participants representing 12 countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Maldives, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, Switzerland, United States and Zambia were awarded with Certificates by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne and H.E. Hanspeter Mock, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Sri Lanka & Maldives who graced the charm closing ceremony held at KDU.

  • CDS INAUGURATES 15TH HACGAM HIGH LEVEL MEETING

    Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne graced the inauguration Ceremony of the High Level Meeting (HLM) of the15th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM) held today (on 08th October 2019) at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo as the Chief Guest. Additional Secretary (Defence) Mr. Anuradha Wijekoon and the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugethanne were also present as the guests of honour. HACGAM is an international forum consisting of all major coast guard agencies in the Asian region. This vital forum was an initiative by Japan in 2004,which focuses on maritime related issues including search and rescue, environmental protection, preventing and controlling unlawful acts at sea, and capacity building. The HACGAM is an annual event conducted with the participation of its 22 member states; Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Philippine, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam, along with its associate member, ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) and three observers; Bali Process, France and UNODC.

    A representative group of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen 's Association (SLESA) called on Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne at the OCDS and formally inaugurated the forthcoming Poppy Day (Remembrance Day) commemoration arrangements by pinning the first Poppy flower on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), on 25th October 2019.
