A high- level security delegation, led by the Secretary Defence, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Head of the National Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, acting Inspector General of Police, C. D. Wickramaratne, Chief of National Intelligence, Commanders of the Security Forces for Jaffna,Mullaittivu and Kilinochchi and General Officers Commanding in respective Divisions, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for North, Deputy Inspector General of Police for North and a few more officials this morning (17) were in Jaffna in order to review security situation and receive updates at field level.

In the light of a series of public concerns, allegations of encroachments on lands of archaeological value, said to have been occurring in the Eastern province of the country, a high- level delegation, led by the Governor for Eastern Province, Ms Anuradha Yahampath, Secretary Defence, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, acting Inspector General of Police, C. D. Wickramaratne, Chief of National Intelligence, Commander, Security Forces-East, Military Liaison Officer, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for East, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Ampara, District Secretary for Ampara, Divisional Secretaries and a few more officials this morning (14th May 2020) were in Deegawapiya and Pottuvil areas in order to take stock of the status quo and explore possibilities of resolving concerns in question.

A consortium of high-level shipping magnates, inclusive of state sector policy-makers in the Presidential Task Force (PTF) Friday (22th May 2020) afternoon during a meeting at the Army HQ, chaired by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army discussed and explored ways and means of devising practical arrangements in regard to change of ship crew members on rotation basis through Sri Lankan ports since many world-wide ports are reluctant to allow disembarkation or embarkation of crew members due to risks involved in COVID-19 pandemic.

Athurugiriya, Pore Purana Sri Maha Viharaya in Hokandara North, on Wednesday (24) honoured Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) by inviting him as the Chief Guest for the auspicious inauguration of the newly-erected gold-plated fence (anweta) around the temple 's sacred 'Bodhiya ', an offshoot of the Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya.\r\n\r\nThe ceremony coincided with the completion of 50 years of monkhood by Ven Rukmale Dhammakiththi Nayaka Thera, Chief Incumbent, Pore Purana Sri Maha Viharaya.
