MAJOR GENERAL NISSANKA ERIYAGAMA PAYS A FAREWELL VISIT TO THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

Marking the conclusion of a distinguished military career, Major General Nissanka Eriyagama RWP RSP paid a farewell visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

Amidst a backdrop of solidarity and respect, Major General Nissanka Eriyagama, accompanied by his family, was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at the OCDS and were ushered into the office of CDS where heartfelt sentiments and expressions of gratitude were exchanged.

In the spirit of companionship, General Shavendra Silva took a moment during the cordial meeting to recognize and express gratitude for Major General Eriyagama's invaluable contributions throughout his tenure in the Sri Lanka Army. Notably, he commended the retiring senior officer's steadfast commitment and exemplary leadership in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty during various operations.

In response, Major General Nissanka Eriyagama expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and the mentorship provided by General Shavendra Silva as the CDS, the Commander of the army and in various capacities during his career in the army. He lauded the exemplary leadership qualities demonstrated by the CDS, citing them as a source of inspiration for aspiring officers within the organisation.

During the discussion, General Shavendra Silva took a moment to acknowledge the unwavering support of Major General Eriyagama's beloved spouse and daughter, recognizing their pivotal support in enabling his dedicated service to the nation.

Major General Nissanka Eriyagama enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 14 July 1989. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant, the senior officer was posted to the Gemunu Watch on 19 January 1991. He will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 30 April 2024, upon reaching 55 years of age. Major General Nissanka Eriyagama held the appointment of General Officer Commanding, the 58 Infantry Division before his retirement. General Eriyagama has been honoured with the Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) awards in recognition of his exceptional bravery demonstrated on the battlefield.

As the meeting drew to a close, Major General Eriyagama and CDS General Shavendra Silva exchanged mementoes as tokens of appreciation and remembrance, symbolizing the enduring camaraderie and mutual respect shared between them.
