MAJOR GENERAL THUSITHA SILVA PAYS A FAREWELL CALL TO THE CDS

Major General M T K R Silva KSP, alongside his family members, paid a farewell visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS). This visit marked the end of a chapter in Major General Thusitha Silva's illustrious military career spanning over three decades.

Amidst an atmosphere of warmth, the visiting Major General and his family were graciously welcomed to the office. During their cordial meeting, General Shavendra Silva took the opportunity to commend Major General Silva for his unwavering dedication and outstanding performance across a multitude of challenging roles throughout his distinguished career. CDS also highlighted Major General Thusitha Silva's invaluable contributions and sacrifices during pivotal moments in the nation's history, particularly during the war against terrorism and recent challenging times.

In response, Major General Thusitha Silva expressed his heartfelt gratitude to General Shavendra Silva for the privilege of meeting the senior-most serving officer in the Sri Lanka Army. He acknowledged the guidance and mentorship he received, underscoring the importance of General Shavendra Silva's leadership in shaping his military journey.

Amidst the discussion, in heartfelt acknowledgement of the significant role played by Major General Thusitha Silva's family, the CDS extended his deepest appreciation for their unwavering support and sacrifices throughout his distinguished career.

Major General Thusitha Silva began his journey in the Sri Lanka Army on 2 August 1989, when he joined the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of the Volunteer Intake 11 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa. After commissioning he was posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI).

Throughout his illustrious career, he served with distinction, steadily rising through the ranks and assuming various leadership positions ultimately reaching the rank of Major General on 25 June 2022. His tenure culminated in his appointment as the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on 19 April 2024, a testament to his dedication and commitment to duty. In recognition of his efficient service rendered to the Army, he has been awarded the 'Kariyakshma Seva Padakkama,' (KSP), one of the highest services medals a volunteer officer can receive in his career.

At the conclusion of the meeting, as a token of appreciation and admiration for the retiring senior officer’s exemplary service, the CDS presented him with a memento, symbolising the respect and gratitude of the entire military fraternity. Additionally, gifts were presented to Major General Thusitha Silva's family members, recognising their unwavering support and contribution to his success.
