11TH WORLD MILITARY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP -2017(CISM), TAKES –OFF AT CHINA BAY

The 11th World Military Golf Championship – 2017(CISM), commenced this morning (13th November, 2017) at the Air Force Eagles ' Golf Link in China Bay, Trincomalee. The Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest. The Sri Lankan Army Chief, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, Ambassador of CISM Golf, Lieutenant General Warnecke and Vice Chairman of the Joint Organizing Committee, Air Vice Marshal SK Pathirana were also present at the occasion. For the very first time in history, Sri Lanka is hosting the international competition with the participation of 9 countries: USA, Netherlands, Bahrain, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Spain and Zimbabwe and 84 golfers. In addition, 27 officials from the International Military Sports Council will be officiating the championship. Host Nation Sri Lanka is fielding 09 golfers including 3 women from Army, Navy and Air Force groomed to take on this professional sport, which is also a key highlight of the event.
