AUSTRALIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER MEETS THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF
The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Bryce Hutchesson met with the Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne this evening (22, Sep).
High Commissioner Hutchesson was received with honours at the office of the Chief of Defence Staff at BMICH, Colombo.
A cordial discussion ensued between the two officials with emphasis on bilateral military cooperation including prospects for training and exchange of subject matter experts. The Defence Adviser to the High Commission of Australia, Captain Jason Sears was also present during the discussion session.
Subsequently, mementos were exchanged marking the occasion.
The Australian and Sri Lankan defence relations and military cooperation reached new heights with both countries initiating an ambitious programme in curbing human trafficking activities. Further, consolidation of bilateral relations was signified with the Australian government 's grant of two Bay Class vessels to the Sri Lankan Navy in 2014.
High Commissioner Bryce Hutcheson was instrumental in providing aid and assistance for the disaster relief efforts during the flash floods and landslides that wreak havoc in the island 's western province earlier this year.
