CDS ATTENDS THE 2023 INDO-PACIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY FORUM

The Indo-Pacific Environmental Security Forum (IPESF) 2023 jointly undertaken by Sri Lanka Navy and United States Indo-Pacific Command commenced today (14 August 2023) at Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo.

The forum which is dedicated to emphasise Climate Change and Security, Land Security and Impacts on National Resilience, Maritime and Water Security, Security Impacts of Urbanization, and Women, Peace, and Security provides a better platform to share lessons learned and best practices among environmental security stakeholders. The IPESF is scheduled to terminate on 17 August and expected to develop actionable plans to address environmental security challenges through project development and workgroup development workshops.

At the invitation extended by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera RSP USP ndu psc for the Four Day Forum, the Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil attended the opening session.

Senior advisor on Climate Change to the President, Mr Ruwan Wijewardene, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, a number of local and foreign senior military offices, and experts and intellectuals in the field attended the event.
