CDS ATTENDS THE 74TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION THE FOUNDING OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

The Embassy of People's Republic of China hosted a reception to commemorate the 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in the evening hours of 28 September 2023 at Ballroom, Shangri-La, Colombo.

At the cordial invitation extended by His Excellency Qi Zhenhong the Ambassador of China in Sri Lanka, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil attended a prestigious reception. CDS was warmly welcomed by the Ambassador of China in Sri Lanka to the reception highlighting the strong ties and cooperation between the two militaries. Ambassador addressing the distinguished gathering reflected on the shared history and friendship between the two friendly nations.

During the reception, the CDS conveyed his gratitude to the Ambassador and staff for the invitation and congratulated the great people of China at this milestone celebrations. He further extended his thankfulness for the support and assistance extended at the difficult times in the past.

Cultural performances and exhibitions were featured at the event, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of China. This cultural exchange serves as a testament to the diverse and multifaceted nature of the relationship between Sri Lanka and China.

The reception was attended by former Presidents, parliamentarians, Chief Jestice, Attorney General, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force, diplomats, and a number of dignitaries.
