CDS ATTENDS CONFERMENT CEREMONY AT ABHAYARAMA TEMPLE, NARAHENPITA

The commendable and exceptional service to the nation and Buddhism by Venerable Rathnapura Nanda Thero and Japanese nationalist Gauichi Thakashima Thero was celebrated in a significant religious ceremony on March 2, 2024, at the historic Narahenpita Abhayarama Ancient Temple.

The ceremony, organized to confer the title of 'Shasana Keerthi Sri Wimalarathana’ and appoint Venerable Rathnapura Nanda Thero as Chief Sanghanayake (Pradhana Sanghanayake) of the ‘Galu and Basnahira Palatha’ (Galle and Western Areas), also saw conferment of an honorary title to Japanese nationalist Gauichi Thakashima Thero by Prime Minister Honourable Dinesh Gunawardena. This event marked a momentous occasion in the religious journey of both Venerable Theros, signifying recognition for their dedicated service to Buddhism, both nationally and globally.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil graced the religious ceremony, extending his respectful wishes and prayers for the continued health and service of the Venerable Theros in their noble endeavours towards the development of Buddhism in the country and globally.

The ceremony was attended by numerous venerable Theros, parliamentarians, and devoted followers, underscoring its significance and widespread support within the community.
