CDS INAUGURATES THE 113TH ANNUAL SESSIONS OF IESL

The ceremonial inauguration of the 113th Annual Sessions of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) was held today (14th October) at the Main Hall, BMICH in the presence of an eminent audience. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The IESL established in 1956, was the successor to the then Engineering Association of Ceylon which was founded in 1906 at Anuradhapura by a few dedicated engineers serving in the public sector, with the objective of providing general advancement of science and practice of engineering in all disciplines concerned according to rules agreed to by its members.

The highlight of the inauguration of annual sessions held in October of each year is the handing over of the mantle of the presidency to the incoming president by the outgoing president after a reign of 1 year as president from October of the previous year.

Senior members, past presidents, council members of the IESL and foreign delegates from member organizations in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and many distinguished guests from Government and other organizations were also present at the occasion.
