CDS REWARDS A SON OF A WAR HERO

The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra C Wijegunaratne rewarded the son of late Chief Petty Officer KG Shantha, Master KG Wikum Anuhas, who excelled in this year 's Grade 5 Scholarships examination obtaining 165 marks.

The CDS congratulated the boy for his remarkable achievement and awarded with a sum of Rs. 100,000.00 to be used for his future education, when the boy along with his mother paid a visit to the office of Chief of Defence Staff today (10th October).

Late Chief Petty Officer KG Shantha sacrificed his life to the nation during a fierce sea battle with the ruthless LTTE terrorists, in the northern seas. He was posthumously awarded the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya medal, the country 's highest award for gallantry.

This reward was given from the fund raised by Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne to look after the welfare of the personnel and families of Sri Lanka Navy Special Boat Squadron (SBS) who were wounded and killed in action and the fund was initiated with the income generated by selling of the book Read Between the Lines authored by Admiral Wijegunaratne.

Mrs. KG Shantha, Training Commander of Special Boat Squadron and several senior officers were present on this special occasion.
