CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF APPRECIATES RETIRING CHIEF OF STAFF OCDS MAJOR GENERAL UDAYA KUMARA

Major General K A A Udaya Kumara RSP VSV USP USAWC psc who held the seat as the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) paid a farewell call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Mphil at the office premises today (27th July 2023).

The retiring Senior Officer, Major General Udaya Kumara, was initially appointed to OCDS as the Director General General Staff and subsequently he was elevated as the Chief of Staff - OCDS. Having completed over 34 years in the Sri Lanka Army in various appointments and capacities, the Senior Officer is retiring today.

General Shavendra Silva during the affable meeting, appreciated the committed discharge of duties that the retiring Senior Officer displayed setting an example and galvanizing a higher level of cooperation and coordination among the Tri Services, Police and the civil organizations.

The retiring Senior Officer has held numerous Command, Instructional and Staff appointments in various capacities including the overseas tenure as the Peacekeeping Officer at the Secretariat of the United Nations Headquarters, New York. Before being appointed to the OCDS, the Senior Officer has held several key appointments at the Army Headquarters as the Military Assistant to one of the former Army Commanders and later as the Director Personal Administration. He has obtained his Master’s Degree in Defence & Strategic Studies from the University of Kelaniya and he has also graduated from the United States Army War College (USAWC).

Major General Udaya Kumara was present at the occasion with his family. Towards end of the interaction, General Shavendra Silva, expressed his best wishes to the retiring Senior Officer and the family for good health and all success in future endeavours. In recognition of his diligent ethics and valuable contribution to the premier Tri Service Headquarters, the CDC presented an appreciative memento to this professional Senior Officer and gifts to the family members.
