CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF ATTENDS 15TH IISS SHANGRI-LA DIALOGUE IN SINGAPORE

Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke made an official visit to Singapore as a member of the delegation led by Secretary to the Minister of Defence Sri Lanka Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi from 3rd to 5th June 2016 to attend 15th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri - La Dialogue Asia Security Summit. Over the last 15 years, IISS Shangri-La Dialogue has developed into a well attended summit which addresses security concerns and challenges facing the region. The keynote address was made by Dr. Ashton Carter, US Secretary of Defence. The Dialogue was also addressed by Defence Ministers of Canada, Thailand, India, Japan and Malaysia. Chiefs of Defence Forces of the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore attended the summit. Intelligence chiefs, academics and representatives of around 30 countries in the region and across the world also participated. The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke called on the Chief of Defence Forces of Australia, Air Chief Marshal Mark Donald Binskin and the Chief of Defence Forces of Singapore, Major General Perry Lim Cheng Yeow on the sidelines of the Dialogue and discussed issues of mutual interest.
