CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF MEETS US STATE DEPRTMENT OFFICIAL
Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne met with the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of South Asia and Central Asia Affairs of the US State Department, Mr. Thomas L Vajda yesterday (23rd October, 2017) at Washington D.C\r\n\r\n\r\nAdmiral Wijegunaratne is currently participating at the Chiefs of Defense Conference at Washington, D.C from 23rd to 24th October, 2017. \r\n\r\n\r\nDuring the meeting the two officials discussed matters of mutual importance and opportunities for more bilateral collaboration on defence aspects. \r\nThis year 's conference theme on Countering Violent Extremism is expected to discuss a number of important areas with the participation of some of the leading experts. \r\n\r\n\r\nThe official visit is being made at the invitation from the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford. \r\n\r\n\r\nMr. Vajda oversees U.S. policy towards and diplomatic relations with India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Maldives. Most recently, he served as U.S. Consul General in Mumbai from 2014-2017. \r\n
