CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO LATE BRIGADIER EDIRISINGHE

In a poignant tribute to the late Brigadier Disna Edirisinghe, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil paid his last respects at the residence of the departed senior officer on 27th December 2023. The Director of Engineer Services at the Directorate of Engineer Ser ices at Army Headquarters, Brigadier Edirisinghe, passed away suddenly on Sunday (24) evening after a brief illness at the age of 52 years.

General Shavendra Silva, highlighting the significant services extended by the late Brigadier Edirisinghe, expressed condolences to the grieving family. Speaking with the family members, the CDS recalled the positive and initiative approach of the senior officer in different capacities that enabled the successful accomplishment of the projects entrusted upon the Sri Lanka Army particularly when the CDS was Commanding the Army.

The CDS further stated that the untimely demise of Brigadier Edirisinghe is a somber moment for the Sri Lanka Army, losing a dedicated and experienced officer. As the Director of Engineer Services, his leadership and commitment were also commended as they were crucial to the smooth functioning of the Army Engineer Services and the organisation at large. General Shavendra Silva also assured the continued assistance to the members of the late senior officer from the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff and Sri Lanka Army in times of need.

His funeral with full military honours took place on Wednesday (27 Dec) at Borella General Cemetery crematorium at 1630 hours.
