CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF IS ON A VISIT TO MALDIVES

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, is on an official visit to the Republic of Maldives.

At the invitation extended by the Chief of Defence Force of the Maldives National Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal MA MSc ndu psc, General Shavendra Silva visited the island nation with a view to nourish the reciprocal military diplomacy and defence cooperation.

During the official visit, the CDS was invited to Maldives National Defence Force Headquarters and he was greeted with a customery Guard of Honour at the entrance and received by Commander Male’ Area, Colonel Ahamed Ghiyas. Subsequently, the CDS was invited for a call on with the Minister of Defence – Maldivian National Defence Force, Mariya Ahmed Didi, the first female Defence Minister, who was also a former member of Maldivian Parliament.

During the diplomatic discussion, the visiting Chief of Defence Staff and Defence Minister Maldives discussed important bilateral defence concerns in the region and novel means of strengthening the existing ties between the two island nations.

The discussion ended CDS adding his remarks in the visitors’ book and the exchange of mementoes.
