CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF VISITS REPUBLIC OF INDIA

Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke made an official visit to Republic of India as a guest of the Indian Armed Forces from 03 to 08 April 2016 on the invitation of Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee & Chief of the Air Staff India. He was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Roshani Gunatilleke, and a delegation consisting of Direcotor General Naval & Air Operations of OCDS, Rear Admiral SWC Mohotty and ADC, Wing Commander KJ Dissanayake, On arrival in New Delhi, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke and delegation were received by senior military officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. During the visit, the Chief of Defence Staff called on Shri Manohar Parrikar, Defence Minister of India, Shri Ajith Doval, National Security Advisor, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee & Chief of the Air Staff and Admiral Robin K Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Staff paid his tributes to fallen War Heroes at India Gate, a war memorial which houses the Amar Jawan Jyoti an immortal fire in memory of the fallen. This was followed by a Tri Service Guard of Honour accorded at South Block Lawns in New Delhi with the participation of Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha. During discussions, the Chief of Defence Staff emphasized the importance of sharing military experiences, Intelligence and working together towards sustainable peace in the region, and global terrorist issues. Further, he recalled the long lasting relations between Sri Lanka and India. The Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee India expressed his willingness to afford more training opportunities for Sri Lankan Military personnel in India. The Chief of Defence Staff visited the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA) at Rao Tula Ram Marg, New Delhi. The Chief of Defence Staff also visited Western Naval Command in Mumbai and called on the Commander in Chief Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba. The Visit afforded an opportunity to exchange views on the latest developments in the related fields, to deepen bilateral ties and focus on security cooperation and defence issues between two countries. Sri Lanka High Commissioner in India His Excellency, Esala Weerakoon and Mrs. Weerakoon hosted an official dinner for the CDS and the delegation. Sri Lankan Defence Attaché in India, Captain Prasanna Hewage and Defence Attaché of India in Sri Lanka, Captain Prakash Gopalan accompanied the CDS throughout the visit.
