CHIEF OF DIFENCE STAFF VALUED A THREE-DECADE LONG SERVICE OF A RETIRING SENIOR OFFICER

One of the Army-produced proud Senior Officers, Major General Kumara Samarasingha of the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) who has been the Director General Operations at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff on the eve of his retirement was invited to the office of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva on Friday (21). Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva during the brief interaction shared few thoughts with the retiring Major General Kumara Samarasingha and refreshed memories in relation to past battlefield gains and experiences. He also commended him for his contribution particularly to the Sri Lanka Artillery and the Army in general while serving many key appointments with commitment. He also praised him for his more than three-decade long dedicated services to the Army and extended best wishes for his future endeavours. The outgoing Senior Officer also thanked the Chief of Defence Staff for his wishes and the thoughtfulness while noting the encouragement he received from the Chief of Defence Staff to performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation. The gesture was reciprocated.
