THE CHINESE DELEGATION VISITS GENERAL SHAVENDRA SILVA

A cross section of the delegation from the National Defence University (NDU) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff General (CDS) Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil today (23 July 2023) at his office.

The touring delegation was comprised of 50 undergraduates of the university and they are scheduled to visit a number of military establishments and meet higher officials of the field during the stay from 21 to 24 June 2023.

The Political Commissar of Joint Operations Collage, NDU of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Major General Zhang Changsheng headed delegation that visited the OCDS was comprised of Instructors/permanent staff of the university and Defence Attaché of China in Sri Lanka. They were warmly welcomed to the office by the CDS and thanked the visiting members for the continued and strong relations maintained since time immemorial.

During the ensuing discussions, the CDS made special remarks on the vacancies allocated for the Sri Lankan Military personnel in the courses conducted by China. And elaborated the importance of allocating more training opportunities to share knowledge between the two nations whilst inviting the Chinese defence personnel to continue participation in locally conducted courses in the future as well.

Highlighting the existing military ties between the two countries, the head of the delegation expressed their gratefulness to the CDS for the opportunity and time. Mementos were exchanged as a symbolic gesture of goodwill and to mark the occasion. The head of the visiting delegation placed his regards in the Visitors’ Book of the OCDS before they leave the premises.
