COMMANDER OF ARMY PAYS COURTESY CALL ON CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake who assumed Command as the 22nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff General Crisanthe De Silva, on 10th August 2017. Chief of Defence Staff extending a warm welcome engaged in a cordial discussion with Lieutenant General Senanayake. Lieutenant General N U M M W Senanayake RWP RSP USP psc joined the Sri Lanka Army on 16 October 1981 as an Officer Cadet of the Intake 16 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 23 June 1983 to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. He passed out as the First in Order of Merit and has been awarded with the Sword of Honour. Later on, he joined the elite Special Forces. During his illustrious military career, he held many Command, Staff and Instructional appointments. Prior to his appointment as the Commander of Army, he functioned as the Chief of Staff in Sri Lanka Army. Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake is a graduate of the prestigious United States Army Command and General Staff College. Further, he holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. In recognition of his gallantry and bravery in the face of the enemy during the operations, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake has been awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Soora Padakkama (RSP). He has also been awarded the Uththama Seva Padakkma (USP) for his unblemished service in the Army. Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake also had a brief interaction with Tri Services ' Senior Officers serving at the OCDS during refreshments. Mementos were exchanged to mark the occasion.
