THE DAY OF MILITARY GLORY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION IS CELEBRATED

On a splendid evening, the Russian Ambassador in Sri Lanka, along with a host of esteemed guests, celebrated the Day of Military Glory of the Russian Federation in a grand reception yesterday (09 Nov) at the Beira Lake Floating Restaurant, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo Hotel.

The event that showcased the pride and heritage of the Russian military was also attended by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavndra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the invitation extended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Mr and Mrs Levan S Dzhaqaryan along with the Military, Air and Naval Attaché to the Embassy of the Russian Federation Colonel Mr and Mrs Aleksei A Bondarev.

General Shavendra Silva who was warmly welcomed to the reception congratulated the Russian Ambassador and the people of Russia on this important day. CDS expressed his deep gratefulness for the support and assistance provided by the Russian Armed Forces during critical times as the support was immensely helpful to the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to address the challenges effectively. Thanking the Ambassador and the Military Attaché for the invitation extended, General Shavendra Silva emphasized the need of further strengthening the ties between the two nations.

In response, the Russian Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff for gracing the evening and extended his assurance of continued support to the Sri Lankan Armed Forces. He highlighted the strong and growing ties between the two nations and emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation.

The Day of Military Glory of the Russian Federation is a significant event that commemorates the valour and dedication of the Russian Armed Forces throughout history. It pays tribute to the remarkable achievements, sacrifices, and contributions of the military to the nation's security and sovereignty. It was indeed an appropriate occasion to celebrate this proud tradition and to share it with international guests.

This diverse assembly that showcased the importance of the event was attended by a distinguished gathering comprised of diplomats, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force, Senior Military officers, and many invited guests.
