DEFENCE ATTACHÉ OF BANGLADESH PAYS HIS GRATITUDE TO THE CDS

In a heartfelt farewell gesture, Commodore Md Shafiu Bari (ND), psc, BN, the outgoing Defence Attaché of Bangladesh having completed 3 years tenure in Sri Lanka, paid a farewell call on Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) today (22 Sep 23).

General Shavendra Silva extended a warm welcome to Commodore Md Shafiu Bari, expressing appreciation for his dedicated service during his tenure in Sri Lanka as the Defence Attaché of Bangladesh. The Chief of Defence Staff commended Commodore Bari for his outstanding diplomatic service and contributions to enhancing the defence ties between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This gesture highlighted the mutual respect and camaraderie that exists within the Armed Forces of both nations. General Shavendra Silva congratulated Commodore Bari on his exciting next chapter in his military career.

The outgoing Defence Attaché Commodore Md Shafiu Bari gratefully recalled the assistance and guidance extended which enabled him to discharge the duties and responsibilities effectively during his mission in the country. He also stated that the experience and novel exposure he gained in the appointment were worth any officer.

During the farewell meeting, the outgoing DA emphasized the importance and value of the orientation tour across the island for Defence Attaches which was initiated under the direction and mentorship of General Shavendra Silva. Also, he thankfully recalled the value of occasional briefings conducted by CDS to update the DAs in Sri Lanka. He further requested the continued assistance of the CDS to the new Defence Attaché.

In conclusion, the CDS presented a plaque to the outgoing DA in appreciation of his role in Sri Lanka.
