DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF CALLS ON THE CDS

In line with the longstanding customs in the Military, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu paid a farewell call on the senior most uniform officer of the Army, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil on Tuesday, 05 December 2023 prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

The CDS warmly welcomed the visiting senior Army officer and accompanied him to the office. Speaking to Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, the CDS commended his service to the organisation and the country at large. General Shavendra Silva also commended the bravery and the valour displayed in the battlefield whilst recalling the commitment of the retiring senior officer to uplift the standard of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR). CDS also spoke high of his working capacity and dedication to the duties entrusted upon the senior military officer as a member of one of the battle hardened regiments; the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.

Thanking the CDS for his warm wishes, the retiring officer conveyed his gratitude to the CDS for the time and opportunity. During the affable meeting, the retiring senior officer also specially mentioned that the guidance, assistance and encouragement of the CDS made a positive impact in discharging his challenging responsibilities in the Army. He further stated that the leadership qualities of General Shavendra Silva particularly altering to the situation set any individual to groom upon.

The retiring senior officer who has served the Army for more than 35 years, was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment SLSR and also overlooked the duties of the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army on the eve of the retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

General Shavendra Silva also appreciated the service of Mrs. Jayawardena, the spouse of the retiring senior officer for commitment whilst being a strength to this senior officer to render a commendable service to the nation. CDS extended heartfelt best wishes to Major General Priyantha Jayawardena and family as he embarks on this new chapter in his life.

Towards the end of the call on, CDS presented a memento to mark the occasion and Major General Priyantha Jayawardena reciprocated.
