GENERAL SHAVENDRA SILVA MEETS WITH THE INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil held an inaugural meeting with the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner, His Excellency Santosh Jha. This meeting emphasised the commitment to strengthening bilateral defence relations between the two nations.

The Indian High Commissioner warmly greeted the CDS, extending a sincere and hospitable welcome. The CDS, visiting on the gracious invitation extended by the High Commissioner, expressed his sincere gratitude and deeply appreciated the invaluable opportunity offered to him for this significant meeting, conveying his heartfelt thanks with utmost respect and humility.

The discussions encompassed various aspects related to the defence and national security interests of both countries and the region as a whole. The CDS conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the Indian government for their firm support extended over the years to the Sri Lankan military, spanning military training, technological advancements, and the provision of military equipment. He emphasised how this support has significantly contributed to the capacity building of the Sri Lankan armed forces, extending to all vital aspects concerning defence and national security.

In the meeting, His Excellency Santosh Jha reiterated India's persistent commitment to supporting the development of the Sri Lankan armed forces, elaborating on various potential avenues through which India could offer assistance, ranging from training programs and technology transfers to collaborative defence projects in the future. Further, he articulated the vision and strategic outlook of the Indian government,particularly emphasizing its relationships with neighboring nations.

Towards the end of the meeting, both the CDS and the High Commissioner exchanged greetings and best wishes reflecting the cultural affinity and shared traditions between the two nations. They also commended the cordial relations maintained over the years and affirmed their commitment to further strengthening these ties.
