INDIAN DEFENCE ADVISER PAYS FAREWELL CALL ON THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

In a diplomatic gesture that underscores the strong and enduring ties between India and Sri Lanka, Captain Vikas Sood, the Defence Adviser (DA) of India in Sri Lanka, paid a farewell call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil today (9 October 2023) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS).

General Shavendra Silva warmly welcomed the outgoing DA to the office and expressed his appreciation for the commendable service rendered for the betterment of the Armed Forces of both nations. The CDS further stated that the diplomatic service of the outgoing officer undoubtedly enhanced the defence ties between the two neighbouring nations. General Shavendra Silva also congratulated Captain Vikas on his exciting next chapter in military career.

During this cordial meeting, Captain Vikas Sood expressed his deep gratitude to General Shavendra Silva for the guidance and support extended to him during his tenure of over three years in Sri Lanka. He also stated that the experience and novel exposure he gained in the appointment were worth any officer. Appreciating the initiative of the CDS to introduce the Defence Attaches’ orientation tour across the island, he requested to continue the same for the future as it provides a much needed orientation to any new foreign diplomat.

As a symbolic conclusion to the meeting, General Shavendra Silva presented a memento, appreciating the dedicated service of Captain Vikas Sood.
