THE INDIAN NDC DELEGATION MEETS CDS

In line with the Strategic Neighbourhood Study Tour of National Defence College (NDC), India to Sri Lanka, a delegation comprised of 18 paid a visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil today (28 Aug 23) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS).

The visiting delegation was comprised of senior Officers of Tri-Services and government officials from Maldives, Myanmar, Russia, Israel, and India. The delegation headed by Rear Admiral Sanjay Sachdeva NM SDS (Navy) ndc was accompanied by, the Defence Advisor of India in Sri Lanka Captain (Navy) Vikas Sood.

On their arrival at the OCDS, the delegation was warmly received and the head of the delegation along with a few senior officers were accompanied to the office of the CDS. Thereafter, an interaction session was held with General Shavendra Silva at the conference hall where the CDS shared his expertise military knowledge, and diplomatic experience with the visitors. General Shavendra Silva voiced his knowledge on the importance of National Security to any country and the role of the members of the Armed Forces and related officials. He further elaborated as an island nation how the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka has developed to address the modern challenges and the concept of formulating way forward strategies for defence. The participants of the NDC course also had an opportunity to further clarify the questions they had from the CDS with the practical application of the same.

Towards the end of the day’s programme one of the participants of the course, Dr Haridwar Sing presented a co-authored book titled ‘Science and Technology of Solid Rocket Propellants’ to General Shavendra Silva. Appreciating his initiative and effort for the subject, CDS encouraged him to produce more literature for the betterment of the generations ahead.

In conclusion, the head of the delegation presented a symbolic memento to the CDS, and General Shavendra Silva reciprocated by presenting mementoes to the members of the delegation to mark the event.
