INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS (ICRC) OFFICIALS CALL ON CDS
Officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mr. Gerard Peytrignet and Mr. Jacques Lemay, the new Regional Armed and Security Forces delegate paid a courtesy call with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne this evening ( 09th July, 2018).
The ICRC officials were of praise of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces initiatives over the years in educating the tri-services personnel on International Humanitarian Law and the Law of Armed Conflict. Reaffirming the ICRC officials, Admiral Wijegunaratne asserted that IHL has been introduced to the training curriculums of the tri-services at each level.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jacques Lemay expressed interest in providing ICRC resource personnel for the National Defence College (NDC), which once established would be the prime military education centre in the island.
In addition, Chief of Defence Staff stated that the constant engagement with the ICRC has benefited the Sri Lanka Armed Forces in contributing to overseas peacekeeping and peace-support operations in an exceptionally professional manner.
