ISLAND WIDE SPECIAL MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAMME CONCLUDED SUCCESSFULLY

Due to current increased trend of Dengue transmission, Island wide special mosquito control programme was jointly conducted by the National Dengue Control Unit - Ministry of Health with the support of Tri Services, Police and the Civil Defence Department from 29th March to 04th April 2016.\r\n\r\nOver 631,416 premises were inspected during this programme and 135,188 premises had been identified as potential mosquitoes breeding sites. As a corrective measure, 25,627 special notices were issued for the owners of the recognized premises and legal actions were initiated against 2104 people owing houses and premises with mosquito breeding sites during the special mosquito control week. \r\n\r\nIn this continuous endeavour to eradicate the Dengue epidemic in Sri Lanka, the Office of the Chief of the Defence Staff has played a leading role in coordinating the Tri Services, Police and the Civil Defence Department.
