MAJOR GENERAL SHIRAN ABEYSEKARA PAYS A FAREWELL CALL ON CDS

The retiring senior officer, Major General Shiran Abeysekara RSP VSV USP made a farewell call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) yesterday (05 October 2023).

On the arrival of the visiting senior officer along with his family members to the OCDS, General Shavendra Silva extended a warm welcome. During his courtesy gesture, the outgoing senior officer extended a special gratitude to the CDS for his time and stated that this was an unforgettable day not only for him but also for the members of his family. Major General Shiran Abeysekara who has completed over 35 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army paid his respect to the CDS for his guidance and assistance extended as the Commander of the Army and later as the Chief of Defence Staff to discharge the duties during his tenure.

During the affable meeting, the CDS recalled the dedicated services rendered by the retiring senior officer in various capacities. Particularly, even after being wounded in the battle, his commitment to the organisation and nation was commended during the call on. The CDS also commended the interest and effort taken to develop the newly formed Regiment, the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock (SLACAL) which is a brainchild of General Shavendra Silva during his tenure as the Commander of the Army. Further, CDS also mentioned that the appointment of the first Colonel Commandant of SLACAL was given to him by identifying his well-known capacities to take up new challenges. Also, CDS appreciated his leadership in prioritizing the agricultural endeavors and the rapid development of farms while commending the expansion of the regiment including the Battalion Training School.

General Shavendra Silva did not forget to add his appreciation for the service of Major General Shiran Abeysekara as the Chairman of the Army Christian Fellowship and the effective discharge of his duties in the capacity of Director General Financial Management (DGFM) irrespective of his field of expertise.

Major General Shiran Abeysekara served as the Director General Financial Management and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock at the time of his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

General Shavendra Silva wished the outgoing senior officer a successful retired life blessed with good health. Finally, mementos were exchanged to mark the visit, where the CDS also wished the family members of the retiring senior officer for their future.
