MALDIVES HIGH COMMISSIONER CALLS ON THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

The new High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka His Excellency Ali Faiz on his assumption of new office paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil in his office today morning (15 March 2023).

The High Commissioner who was ceremonially escorted to the premises was warmly received by Major General Udaya Kumara RSP VSV USP USAWC psc the Chief of Staff of Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) and escorted to the CDS’s office.

General Shavendra Silva warmly welcomed His Excellency Ali Faiz and congratulated His Excellency for his appointment as the High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka. During the affable dialogue, CDS recalled the strong bilateral relations maintained over the years and requested to continue the same in the future as well. He further elaborated on the possible training opportunities for the members of the armed forces and recalled his memories as the Course Officer for the first-ever Maldivian Cadets trained at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa.

Expressing his gratefulness to the CDS for his commitment towards the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the High Commissioner assured the continued strong relations between the two nations, particularly the military affairs whilst assuring the highest concerns in time to come.

The CDS presented a special memento to the High Commissioner wishing him all the success in his future endeavours. In return, the High Commissioner also presented a memento to the CDS symbolising the sound bilateral relations. Toward the end of the meeting, the High Commissioner also signed the Visitors’ Book to mark this occasion.

The Defence Advisor of the High Commission of the Republic of Maldives to Sri Lanka Lieutenant Colonel LTC Hassan Amir also attended the meeting.
