MANAGING DEFENCE IN THE WIDER SECURITY CONTEXT COURSE FOR MIDDLE LEVEL SENIOR OFFICERS

A Governance and Defence Management Programme titled Managing Defence in the Wider Security Context (MDWSC) planned by Defence University of United Kingdom under the guidance of the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff was successfully conducted from 6th to 17th June 2016 at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSC&SC) Sapugaskanda. Thirty three senior officers from the Tri Services participated in the Programme. The United Kingdom offered to deliver MDWSC to the Sri Lankan Military at a meeting between a delegation of the United Kingdom and the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke on 15th December 2015. The course focused on Leadership, Management, Professionalism, Governance, Security and Decision Making. It provided an opportunity for participants to examine different approaches to governance and management of defence in developed and transitional democracies. The programme conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Hartley from Defence Academy in Shrivenham along with some of the professionals of Cranfield University in United Kingdom namely Dr. Laura Cleary, Mr. David Turns and Mr. Chris Taylor. A reception hosted for the course participants by the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka His Excellency, James Dauris at the Westminster House Colombo on 17th June 2016. This was followed by the certificate awarding ceremony by the British High Commissioner.
