MYANMAR AMBASSADOR CALLS ON CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF

In a significant diplomatic exchange, His Excellency Wunna Kyaw Htin Han Thu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) today (21 February 2024).

The CDS warmly welcomed the visiting Ambassador to the OCDS in accordance with military traditions which underscores the commitment to further strengthening the relationship between both nations.

During the meeting, there were fruitful discussions on enhancing cooperation between the two friendly nations, particularly in the fields of culture, Buddhism and related security. General Shavendra Silva expressed his gratitude for the support extended by Myanmar, particularly during times of need, and assured the highest consideration to the Armed Forces of Myanmar. The CDS also drew the attention of the Ambassador for rescuing the Sri Lankan nationals who have become victims of human trafficking for cybercrimes in their borders.

His Excellency Wunna Kyaw Htin Han Thu conveyed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reiterated Myanmar's commitment to maintaining cooperation with Sri Lanka. He expressed that, during his tenure, the embassy would explore every avenue to further strengthen bilateral relations across various fields, including defence.

To commemorate this significant occasion, mementoes were exchanged between the Chief of Defence Staff and visiting Ambassador symbolising the goodwill and camaraderie shared between the two nations. His Excellency the Ambassador also penned his thoughts in the Visitors’ Book of the OCDS before his departure.
