NEW CHIEF OF STAFF OCDS ASSUMES DUTIES

Major General PPA Perera Hdmc psc assumed duties as the new Chief of Staff of Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) placing his signature on an official document at an auspicious spell scheduled yesterday (27 July 2023) symbolizing the acceptance of the new appointment.

Major General Asanga Perera assumed the new office replacing the retiring Major General Anil Udaya Kumara RSP VSV USP USAWC psc who was the former Chief of Staff at OCDS. Before taking over duties, he officially met the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil to get his advice and direction to perform in the new appointment. The CDS explained the responsibilities of the new appointment and conveyed his congratulations and best wishes for the successful discharge of duties in the new appointment.

Before taking over the new appointment, Major General Asanga Perera served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 12 Division. He has held numerous Command, Instructional and Staff appointments in various capacities including a tenure as a Military Staff Officer in the United Nation’s Stabilisation Mission in Haiti.

He is a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sapugaskanda and also he has qualified in Higher Defence Management course in India. He possesses a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, obtained from the Faculty of Management and Finance of the University of Colombo and a Master’s Degree in Management Studies from the University of Osmania in Hyderabad, India. Further, he is an affiliated member of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and a member of the Engineering Council of Sri Lanka (ECSL).
