NEW INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON CDS

In a notable display of cooperation between key national security figures, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon made a courtesy visit to General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), at his office today (13 March).

The CDS warmly welcomed the newly appointed IGP and congratulated him on his appointment which is the highest seat in Sri Lanka Police, emphasizing the crucial role of the IGP in ensuring public law and order within Sri Lanka.

During their cordial discussion, both leaders focused primarily on national security matters. Further, the CDS took the opportunity to express appreciation for the IGP for the broader vision and timely initiatives taken to strengthen the law and order of the country. The CDS also commended the IGP for his work and cooperation maintained with Tri-Services even when he was the senior DIG of the Western Province. In the ensuing conversation, the CDS offered his suggestions and recommendations as well to maintain the Sri Lanka Police's best practices.

The IGP expressed his gratitude to CDS for the opportunity and time. The IGP conveyed his gratitude to CDS and highlighted the constant support received from Tri-Services to Sri Lanka Police even during the time CDS was the Commander of the Army. Further, he sought continued support from the Tri-Services to ensure law and order for the betterment of the general public of the country, where General Shavendra Silva assured the fullest support of the Tri-Services.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, symbolizing the occasion and further strengthening the bond between the Sri Lankan Police and the Tri-Services in their collaborative efforts to ensure national security and public safety. Before his departure, the visiting IGP took a moment to leave a note in the visitors' book to honour his visit to the CDS.

After graduating from the University of Colombo with a bachelor’s degree, IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon joined the Sri Lanka Police Service in 1998, beginning his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. Thereafter, having held all appointments commensurate with ranks, he officially assumed duties as IGP at the Police Headquarters on 29 February 2024.
